In this four-week, live-teaching series, kids will hear stories from the beginning of the world when everything was awesome! After that, kids will see that everything was not so awesome, because of sin. But since God is still awesome, he can work all things together for the good of those who love him.

STORY

Listen to the story from Week 4: God Starts Everything over with Noah, Genesis 6-9

ASK YOUR KID

What promise do rainbows represent?

PARENT BIBLE STUDY

Read: Genesis 6:1-9:17
God’s heart is broken at the beginning of the story of Noah. Understanding the emotion of God at this point in human history, helps us understand more about God. We see in his decision to flood the earth that he is a God of righteousness and justice. So, when he saw so much evil he could not stand by and do nothing. He was like a good dad with a rebellious child. He was not only angry, but grieving. Our sin grieves God.

In a massive sea of evil, Noah was a small ark of righteousness. So in addition to his righteousness and justice, we see God’s mercy. God saved Noah and his family because they were looking toward God and wanted to please him.

The story of the flood begs the question of how much evil in the world it would take for God to destroy the earth again? However, the flood saga ended with God’s promise to never flood the earth again. He put a rainbow in the sky to remind us of that. It’s a good promise, because certainly the world has enough evil in it again to warrant complete destruction. But Noah’s story reminds us that we can rely on God’s grace to save us. How could a righteous and just God allow so much evil if he weren’t also full of love and patience, wanting everyone to have a chance to turn to him?

Hopefully Noah’s story reminds us of God’s righteousness and his astounding grace.

How do you feel about your own sin knowing how God feels about evil? How does grace become sweeter to you in this light?

BIBLE VERSE:

THE BIG PICTURE

Our Elementary curriculum is written for 1st through 5th graders. Through exciting videos, or live teaching in the rooms, kids explore stories from the Bible each month. Beginning with Creation, and moving in chronological order throughout the year, kids learn that God is our Creator, his son Jesus is our Savior, and he is loving, healing, miraculous, and personal. Kids learn about baptism, how to pray, how they can be more like Jesus, and how they can help others. In a large group format, elementary kids sing and dance to worship songs, then meet fun characters and play games that introduce them to the concept of the series. After the story, kids transition to small group activities, designed to be led by an adult. We hope elementary kids learn through interactive content, and begin to grow in their understanding of who Jesus is and how to follow him.
