In this four-week, live-teaching series, kids will hear stories from the beginning of the world when everything was awesome! After that, kids will see that everything was not so awesome, because of sin. But since God is still awesome, he can work all things together for the good of those who love him.

What happened to God’s perfect creation?

PARENT BIBLE STUDY

Read: Genesis 2-3
God specifically created human beings to bear his image. That is good truth, and it changes everything, from how we view ourselves to how we treat each other. Why? It means that as humans, we are able to reflect the character of God better than any other created thing. Human beings, God says, are his very good creation; thoughtfully, intentionally, and uniquely made.

Humans hold a special place in the heart of God. The Jesus Storybook Bible says it this way, “God loved them [Adam and Eve] with all of his heart. And they were lovely because he loved them.” We are lovely because God loves us. And you know what? God’s love for us is never- changing, which means when we find our worth in God, it is secure. Our worth doesn’t have to go up and down with our moods or our circumstances. Our value stands on the steady and secure love of God. Wouldn’t it have been wonderful if we, as humans, never forgot this?

But we all know it didn’t take long for Adam and Eve to forget.

Because one day, Satan disguised himself as a snake, fed a half-truth to Eve, and deceived her and Adam into the first sin. And it was the first time that humans believed the lie that God doesn’t actually love us or want good for us.

The moment sin and shame entered the world, God’s people started hiding from him. Their perfect relationship with God was broken. Since that moment in the garden, Satan has been searching and finding ways to convince us of the lie that God’s love is not enough, that he won’t really give us what we need. Thankfully, the Bible doesn’t end there. The Bible tells us that God is always good, even when we are not. God’s love didn’t stop that day in the garden. Instead, that day set the stage for the greatest redemption story. God had a plan of rescue, a plan to bring us back into perfect relationship with him.

And that plan was Jesus: our rescue, our righteousness, and our freedom from sin.
Do you believe God has good intentions for you? In what ways, or in what seasons of life, is it hard for you to believe this truth?
What lie is Satan telling you about yourself or God? Ask God to show you what is true about himself and who you are.

THE BIG PICTURE

Our Elementary curriculum is written for 1st through 5th graders. Through exciting videos, or live teaching in the rooms, kids explore stories from the Bible each month. Beginning with Creation, and moving in chronological order throughout the year, kids learn that God is our Creator, his son Jesus is our Savior, and he is loving, healing, miraculous, and personal. Kids learn about baptism, how to pray, how they can be more like Jesus, and how they can help others. In a large group format, elementary kids sing and dance to worship songs, then meet fun characters and play games that introduce them to the concept of the series. After the story, kids transition to small group activities, designed to be led by an adult. We hope elementary kids learn through interactive content, and begin to grow in their understanding of who Jesus is and how to follow him.
